Program Information

Mission

The mission of the Georgia Educational Interpreters Professional Development Program is to equip educational interpreters with the knowledge, skills, and professional support needed to ensure Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across the state have equitable access to high-quality education. Through targeted, accessible, and standards-based professional learning, we support interpreters at all stages of their careers, fostering growth, credential attainment, and excellence in educational interpreting practice.

Vision

We envision a statewide community of highly qualified educational interpreters who are empowered, connected, and continually growing in their practice, ensuring that every Deaf and Hard of Hearing student in Georgia receives full access to learning, social engagement, and academic success through skilled interpretation in inclusive educational settings.

Program Objectives

1. Strengthen the pipeline of qualified educational interpreters by engaging pre-service interpreters in early, standards-aligned professional development that builds foundational skills, supports real-world application, and prepares them for effective service in Georgia’s P-12 educational settings.

2. Offer a structured pathway for interpreters with a non-renewable license to achieve full credentials by addressing specific skills and knowledge gaps

3. Provide opportunities for fully GaPSC-licensed interpreters to maintain their licensure through high-quality, relevant, and accessible professional development

4. Ensure all interpreters are trained on current policies, ethical practices, and standards in education and interpreting

5. Promote collaboration and community among interpreters, educators, and stakeholders within the state to create an inclusive and equitable learning environment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
